The Friends of the Northern San Jacinto Valley is a local grassroots conservation group dedicated to preserving and protecting the northern San Jacinto Valley, the San Jacinto Wildlife Area (SJWA), Mystic Lake, and Potrero Creek Conservation Unit of the SJWA. We are a 501(c)(3) organization.
The San Jacinto Wildlife Area is located in western Riverside County, California approximately 60 miles east of the Los Angeles metropolitan area between the cities of Moreno Valley and San Jacinto. The San Jacinto Wildlife Area is owned by the state of California and managed by the state Department of Fish and Game. Currently, the wildlife area is made up of 19,000 acres of wildlife habitat. Approximately 10,000 acres are located in the northern San Jacinto Valley consisting of wetlands, grasslands, Coastal Sage Scrub habitat. The Potrero Creek Conservation Unit has 9,000 acres and is located southeast of the wildlife area in "The Badlands" bordered by State Highway 79 and Gilman Springs Road. The San Jacinto Wildlife Area is also one of premier hunting areas in southern California (hunting is allowed at all state-owned wildlife areas). State hunting fees support the management of wildlife habitat throughout the state. The San Jacinto Wildlife Area is a cornerstone reserve in the Riverside County Multi-Species Habitat Conservation Plan reserve system.

Sponsor monthly nature walks at the San Jacinto Wildlife Area from September through June to introduce local residents to the San Jacinto Wildlife Area.
Attend community events such as the Wildlife Art Festival (Redlands, CA) and Environmental Expo, California State University, San Bernardino (San Bernardino, CA) to share information about the wildlife area and its wildlife and educational values.
Conduct tours of the SJWA for school groups and other interested parties.
Sponsor tree planting projects and purchase trees and other plants for habitat restoration projects at the SJWA.
Submit written and oral comments on a wide variety of land use and transportation issues which affect the San Jacinto Wildlife Area and the northern San Jacinto Valley.
Work to maintain the integrity and wildlife values of the the San Jacinto Wildlife Area and the northern San Jacinto Valley.
